Matt began directing as an associate to Trevor Nunn and John Caird on their original production of Les Miserables at the Palace Theatre in London. He staged productions of the show in Australia, South Africa, Hong Kong and on tour in the UK. He directed the Australian premiere of Miss Saigon in Sydney as well as the original British touring production. He also staged the Gala which celebrated the shows record breaking ten year run at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane and directed the Schoenberg and Boublil section of Hey Mr Producer! at the Lyceum Theatre.
In the Netherlands Matt has directed productions of My Fair Lady (John Kraijjkamp Musical Award for Best Director), Evita and La Cage Aux Folles, which he also directed at the Aarhus Theatre, Denmark.
His drama school work is extensive and includes productions of The Rink, Carousel, Oklahoma!, Sweeney Todd, Company, Carnival, A Doll’s Life, Lady in the dark and the UK premiers of A Man Of No Importance, John Caird and Paul Gordon’s Jane Eyre, A Catered Affair, William Finn’s Elegies and Michael John La Chuisa’s The Wild Party, Bernarda Alba and First Lady Suite.
Most recently Matt directed the European premieres of Dogfight (Southwark Playhouse/ Evening Standard Awards nomination Best New Musical), Stay awake, Jake (Vaults/ Origin Award outstanding original work) and a new production of Tim Firth and Gary Barlow’s Calendar Girls which toured regionally.
He is very happy to be part of the Jamie family.
