Instagram Image Sizes

Instagram is the most widely used photo-sharing platform. A feed based primarily on visual content means it’s important to get the right-sized images for music promotion on Instagram.

Supported Formats: JPEG and JPG. PNG, BMP, and non-animated IIFs

Profile Photo

Users see this when they search for you on Instagram’s Explore page. Remember, first impressions are important.

Remember that Instagram profile pictures are displayed in circles. You may have to re-centre your image to ensure that no important visuals are lost.

Feed Posts

Instagram is all about the feed.

These are the images that you upload to Instagram as ‘posts’. They appear in your follower’s main feed. You can format your post images in square or portrait modes, but we recommend that you stick to square images for your feed.

Thumbnail Photos

Instagram Stories

Stories are one of Instagram’s most popular features. Instagram Stories can be used to add images as well as videos. Don’t forget the details!

IGTV Cover photo

The cover photo of your IGTV vid uploaded to Instagram will be displayed on your channel page. Make sure your cover photo is correctly sized.

Twitter ranks among the top places to promote and network with your music via social media. There are a few formatting options to be aware of when uploading images.

Profile Photo

Like Instagram, your music Twitter account photo is the first reference point for audiences searching your Twitter handle or name.

Your Twitter profile picture, just like Instagram’s, will be displayed in a circle even if it was uploaded as a square. To avoid cropping important visuals, keep them away from the corners.

– Recommended dimensions: 400×400 (1:1)

– Maximum file size: 2MB

Header/Banner image

Your Twitter banner or header is an image that appears horizontally at the top of your profile.

– Recommended dimensions 1500×500 (3:1)

– Maximum file size: 5MB

Keep in mind that header images look different across different devices, i.e., desktop to mobile. Twitter can crop your header up to 60 pixels. You might also need to re-centre the image, just like Instagram. This will keep all important information at the forefront.

Remember that your Twitter profile picture may partially block the bottom left corner of your header image. Re-centre as necessary (but we’ll get there next).
